Ageing Societies and Immigration in Southeast Europe – Real Challenges and Imagined Threats

This panel discussion examines demographic change and ageing in Southeast Europe, addressing depopulation, migration, and the political narratives surrounding low birth rates. Bringing together experts from different fields, it explores the social challenges of ageing societies, the role of immigration, and the persistence of pro-natalist and nationalist responses. The event is organized by the research project “Anxieties of Ageing in Southeastern Europe,” funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
